Description: This dry-mesic oak forest occurs on rich, loessal soils of the southern portion of Crowley's Ridge, Arkansas, on middle and upper slopes and undulating narrow finger ridges. Examples are dominated by Quercus alba and Quercus falcata, with a significant component of Quercus velutina. The subcanopy includes the overstory species as well as Ostrya virginiana, Cornus florida, Carya alba, Liriodendron tulipifera, and Magnolia acuminata. A number of species may be present in the herbaceous layer.
