Name: Celtis laevigata var. reticulata / Brickellia californica Forest
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This association is found in the San Francisco River watershed in southwestern New Mexico. Preliminary data suggest that the type occurs on upper terraces that are seldom flooded (25- to 50-year recurrence intervals) along either perennial, intermittent or ephemeral streams of low to moderate gradients. Elevations range from 1370 to 1860 m (4500-6100 feet). Soils have been identified as rocky Torrifluvents or Ustipsamments. Celtis laevigata var. reticulata forms moderately closed canopies with shrubby understories dominated by Brickellia californica, the canopy with Prosopis glandulosa and Penstemon pseudospectabilis. The herbaceous layer is sparse and characterized by the sporadic occurrence of mostly upland species.
