Description: This alliance consists of marshes dominated by Colocasia esculenta (an introduced species). This alliance is widespread in the Neotropics, but limited in the southeastern United States to subtropical (or nearly subtropical) areas. These marshes, dominated by nearly monospecific Colocasia esculenta, may occur in areas of 1-100 or more acres in size in southern Louisiana (delta of the Mississippi River).
