Description: Equisetum hyemale (scouringrush horsetail) is an evergreen, rush-like perennial plant to 4 feet tall. The stem is jointed, siliceous, erect, ridged and cylindrical with terminal strobili. This plant association occurs on sandbars and terraces adjacent to rivers in far western Colorado. It generally occurs in small patches composed mainly of Equisetum hyemale (scouringrush horsetail) with minor cover of associated species. Sites have a high water table and may be seasonally flooded.
