The woodland is very open with widely spaced trees. The distance between trees is more than twice their canopy widths. Shrubs are few and far between. The ground is covered with thick grasses. This association is known from two stands on the Arkansas and Purgatory River in the southeastern corner of Colorado, and one from the Yampa River in northwestern Colorado.
