Name: Osmunda cinnamomea / Vaccinium macrocarpon Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Eastern Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This boggy wetland of southern New England occurs in isolated groundwater basins on moderately deep peat. It is documented from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The dominant species is Osmunda cinnamomea. Scattered or patchy Morella pensylvanica is common, and an "understory "of Vaccinium macrocarpon and Sphagnum mosses is characteristic. The absence of Chamaedaphne calyculata is striking. Other shrub associates may include Clethra alnifolia, Photinia pyrifolia (= Aronia arbutifolia), or Kalmia angustifolia. Other herbaceous associates include Woodwardia virginica, Onoclea sensibilis, Triadenum virginicum, Euthamia graminifolia, Lycopus uniflorus, Rubus hispidus, Eriophorum virginicum, and Lysimachia terrestris.
