Description: This herbaceous bunchgrass association has been documented in southern and central California and in the lower Sierra Nevada foothills. It occurs on gently rolling slopes (1-3%) or flat areas between 90 and 1496 m (296-4909 feet) elevation. Soils are well-drained sandy to sandy loams. Stands form open to dense grasslands dominated by <i>Muhlenbergia rigens</i>. Other graminoids present include <i>Bromus diandrus, Bromus hordeaceus, Elymus glaucus, Leymus triticoides</i>, and <i>Lolium perenne ssp. multiflorum (= Lolium multiflorum)</i>. Forbs are also often present and include <i>Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera, Erodium cicutarium, Eschscholzia californica</i>, and <i>Hypochaeris glabra</i>. Shrubs may also be present with <10% cover, including <i>Eriogonum fasciculatum, Eriogonum wrightii, Rubus discolor</i>, and <i>Toxicodendron diversilobum</i>.
