Name: Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus / Poa pratensis Ruderal Shrub Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This association is known from the southern Rocky Mountains and Colorado Plateau at 2200-2445 m (7200-8015 feet) elevation and likely is more widespread. Stands occur on the lower slopes of ridges, on terraces above drainages, and in valley bottoms. Sites are gently sloping, often on cooler northerly aspects. Ground surfaces may have high cover of litter. Soils are moderately well-drained to rapidly drained loams and silty clay loams derived from alluvium. The vegetation is characterized by a moderately dense herbaceous layer dominated by the introduced rhizomatous grass Poa pratensis with an open to moderately dense (10-50% cover) short-shrub layer dominated by Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus. Additional short and dwarf-shrubs that provide low cover include Artemisia tridentata, Mahonia repens, and Symphoricarpos rotundifolius. Other common graminoids with low cover include Achnatherum lettermanii, Bromus porteri, Festuca thurberi, and Sporobolus cryptandrus. Forb cover is sparse but may be diverse and include Artemisia ludoviciana, Eriogonum racemosum, Eriogonum umbellatum, Lupinus argenteus, Penstemon palmeri, and Tragopogon dubius. Seedling Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus short shrubs are present in the stand and provide sparse cover.
