Name: Scaevola sericea Coastal Dry Shrubland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This dry shrubland is currently sampled from two national historical parks in Hawaii, and this description is based on occurrences there. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. These shrublands are found near the ocean and may be affected by sea spray. The substrate is lava with some coral/beach sand. This is a low, open-canopied shrubland dominated by scattered Scaevola sericea, occasionally with Pluchea carolinensis. There is often a very sparse tree canopy comprised of Tournefortia argentea and a similarly sparse herbaceous layer comprised of trace amounts of Chamaesyce prostrata, Passiflora foetida, Portulaca pilosa, Cynodon dactylon, Fimbristylis cymosa, and Pennisetum setaceum.
