Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This association is found in bogs, primarily in the central and northern portion of the Puget Lowlands in Washington. It typically occurs on deep sphagnum peat with the water table below the surface. The closed evergreen conifer tree canopy is dominated by Tsuga heterophylla. Trees are over 200 years in age and growing very slowly. The understory is sparse with small amounts of Gaultheria shallon or Ledum groenlandicum present. Sphagnum spp. are present. This association is distinguished by the closed canopy of Tsuga heterophylla, the sparse understory with Sphagnum spp., and sphagnum peat soil.
