Name: Solidago canadensis - Achillea millefolium Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This herbaceous association is currently only known from Yosemite National Park in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Stands of this forb association occur in dry to moist meadow environments. Sites are mesic to temporarily saturated meadows. Elevations range from about 1710-2130 m (5620-7000 feet), and slopes are flat, gentle, or moderate and, when having an aspect, face southeast to west. Soils are somewhat poorly drained loam to silty loam. This perennial forb vegetation is characterized by dense cover of moisture-loving forbs and grasses, primarily Solidago canadensis. Total vegetative cover is generally greater than 80%. Solidago canadensis (35-67% cover) is the most common forb. Other forbs of greater than 50% constancy include Achillea millefolium, Horkelia fusca, Agrostis scabra, Mimulus primuloides, Poa pratensis, Potentilla gracilis, and Deschampsia caespitosa. The forbs and graminoids present in trace amounts include an additional 30 species.
