Name: Populus tremuloides / Ranunculus alismifolius Forest Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of... Description: Stands of this localized forest type are found in moist depressions at high elevations in western Wyoming. Sites supporting this type are moist depressions along streams or around seeps. Soils are silts or clays and have high water tables that restrict the distribution of <i>Abies</i> and shrubs to hummocks. The canopy is formed by <i>Populus tremuloides</i>, often of mixed size classes. Scattered <i>Abies lasiocarpa</i> often are present. Scattered shrubs (especially <i>Lonicera involucrata</i> and <i>Ribes montigenum</i>) may be present but the stand contains no distinct shrub layer. <i>Ranunculus alismifolius</i> dominates the herbaceous layer.
