Description: This shrubland association is currently only known from Point Reyes National Seashore in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Stands are found at low elevations on 4- to 13-degree slopes. Aspects are east-northeast to southwest on undulating lower to upper slopes. Soil textures range from moderately fine sandy clay loam to moderately coarse sandy loam. This shrubland forms dense stands dominated by <i>Prunus ilicifolia</i> with continuous cover of 60-80% cover in the shrub layer. <i>Sanicula crassicaulis</i> is an important understory herb. A variety of herbs and shrubs that are often found in this association include <i>Dirca occidentalis, Sanicula crassicaulis, Toxicodendron diversilobum, Heracleum maximum (= Heracleum lanatum), Marah fabaceus, Ribes californicum, Heteromeles arbutifolia</i>, and <i>Ceanothus thyrsiflorus</i>. Other species that may be included are <i>Conium maculatum, Sambucus mexicana, Ribes sanguineum, Stellaria media, Galium aparine, Dryopteris arguta, Solanum douglasii, Maianthemum racemosum (= Smilacina racemosa), Clinopodium douglasii (= Satureja douglasii), Carduus pycnocephalus, Artemisia californica, Solanum xanti, Hesperocnide tenella</i>, and <i>Polystichum munitum</i>. This association is often adjacent to <i>Baccharis pilularis</i> communities.
