Name: Quercus garryana / Pseudoroegneria spicata Woodland Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of... Description: This is a deciduous woodland association found along lower treeline in the eastern Cascades near the Columbia River gorge, primarily in Washington. This type appears on slopes or ridgetops that are the driest and hottest sites supporting trees. They generally are found between 610 and 760 m (2000-2500 feet) elevation. The existing vegetation is characterized by an open <i>Quercus garryana</i> layer occasionally with a few individual <i>Pinus ponderosa</i> trees. The tree canopy is mostly open and only rarely approaches being a closed stand when <i>Quercus garryana</i> clones merge. <i>Purshia tridentata</i> may be present but is never dominant. The herbaceous layer is graminoid-dominated primarily by <i>Pseudoroegneria spicata</i> and <i>Bromus tectorum</i>.  Accession Code: VB.CC.32652.CEGL000552 Plot-observations of this Community Concept: 0
