Name: Eriogonum douglasii / Poa secunda Dwarf-shrub Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This scabland association is characterized by cespitose, drought-resistant plants. Stands are documented from Hells Canyon in Oregon and Idaho, and south-central Washington. Sites are typically ridgetops and plateaus at elevations of 950-1525 m (3100-5000 feet), and occur on a variety of aspects with slopes less than 13%. Soils are typically silt loams or loams with 35% gravel that increases in size to boulders lower in the stratum. Bedrock is typically basalt. Vegetation cover is dominated by Eriogonum douglasii (6-40%), and Poa secunda (10-25%). Cover of other associated species include Elymus elymoides ssp. elymoides (0-3%), Sedum spp. (0-3%), Lomatium cous (0-5%), Viola trinervata (0-7%) and Arabis holboellii (0-3%). There is typically 15-40% cover of surface rock (gravel).
