Description: This association is described from south-central Montana, in the Pryor Mountains. It is found in the subalpine zone, at approximately 2593 m (8500 feet) elevation. Sites occupied by <i>Festuca idahoensis</i> are typically gently rounded ridge crests. Average annual precipitation on the crest of the Pryor Mountains is 50.8 cm (20 inches). Little else is known. This herbaceous association is poorly described. It is dominated by the perennial bunchgrass <i>Festuca idahoensis</i> (10% cover) and the perennial sedge <i>Carex scirpoidea</i> (40% cover). There is no shrub or tree layer. Twenty-seven forb species are reported to occur, the most abundant being <i>Phlox hoodii</i> and <i>Geum triflorum</i>.
