Name: Alnus rubra / Salix lasiolepis Forest
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This forest association is currently only known from Point Reyes National Seashore in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Stands are found on low-gradient streams and their banks, including upper terraces. Soil textures range from moderately fine sandy clay loam to medium sand of gravelly alluvium. All stands inventoried occurred along permanent streams. Stands of this forest form an open herb layer, an open to continuous shrub layer, and an open to continuous tree layer. It is dominated by either Alnus rubra or Salix lasiolepis. However, either species must be at least 25% relative cover. Rubus ursinus and Urtica dioica are also present. A variety of other species may include Artemisia douglasiana, Carex sp., Ribes sp., Equisetum sp., Rumex crispus, Veronica americana, Lonicera involucrata, Acer negundo, Rubus discolor, Scirpus microcarpus, Polygonum sp., and Vinca major.
