Name: Ceanothus thyrsiflorus - Vaccinium ovatum - Rubus parviflorus Shrubland Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of... Description: This shrubland association is currently only known from Point Reyes National Seashore in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. This association is found at higher elevations on granitic slopes of Inverness Ridge. Most stands are the result of the 1995 Mount Vision fire. <i>Ceanothus thyrsiflorus</i> is an obligate seeding species, which dominates areas a few years after fire. These stands were part of the ~<i>Pinus muricata - Pinus torreyana - Pinus radiata</i> Woodland Alliance (A4097)$$ prior to the Mount Vision fire. The characteristic species <i>Rubus parviflorus</i> and <i>Vaccinium ovatum</i> are both common understory species in the unburned portions of the <i>Pinus muricata</i> Forest Alliance. In 1997 the <i>Ceanothus</i> and associated shrubs were still rapidly growing and most were less than 2 m in height. Aspects are generally north and east. This vegetation includes stands dominated by <i>Ceanothus thyrsiflorus</i> forming a fairly open shrub canopy between 1-2 m in height. The understory may contain <i>Chrysolepis chrysophylla var. minor, Pteridium aquilinum, Gaultheria shallon, Erechtites minima</i>, and a wide variety of herbaceous species contributing minor cover. The two other characteristic species, <i>Vaccinium ovatum</i> and <i>Rubus parviflorus</i>, occur in low cover, but may increase following resprouting from fire.  Accession Code: VB.CC.34497.CEGL003199 Plot-observations of this Community Concept: 0
