Description: This forest occurs on temporarily flooded natural levees along blackwater rivers in northern Florida and perhaps elsewhere. The canopy is dominated by a mixture of <i>Taxodium distichum</i> and <i>Betula nigra</i>. The sparse subcanopy has species including <i>Acer rubrum, Fraxinus caroliniana</i>, and <i>Cephalanthus occidentalis</i>. The shrub layer is fairly well-developed, with <i>Sebastiania fruticosa</i> the most commonly occurring species, and also with <i>Amorpha fruticosa, Hypericum prolificum, Vaccinium elliottii</i>, and <i>Cyrilla racemiflora</i>. Scattered herbs include <i>Rhynchospora colorata</i> and <i>Osmunda regalis var. spectabilis</i>.
