Description: This community is found in interdune swales on barrier islands along the Alabama Gulf coast. <i>Taxodium ascendens</i> dominates the closed canopy. <i>Magnolia virginiana</i> dominates the open to closed subcanopy. <i>Cladium mariscus ssp. jamaicense</i> dominates the closed herb stratum. In addition to the nominals, other characteristic species include <i>Cyrilla racemiflora, Persea palustris, Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera)</i>, and <i>Rhynchospora miliacea</i>. Herbaceous components can include the ferns <i>Woodwardia virginica</i> and <i>Osmunda regalis</i>.
