Description: This association encompasses fire-suppressed pine forests of the southern terminus of the Appalachians, with little heath and a suppressed herb layer. Stands are dominated by <i>Pinus taeda</i> with <i>Schizachyrium scoparium</i> and <i>Tephrosia virginiana</i>. Other characteristic species include <i>Quercus marilandica, Quercus nigra, Sorghastrum nutans</i>, and <i>Pityopsis graminifolia var. latifolia</i>. It is believed that these areas formerly supported <i>Pinus palustris</i>-dominated communities.
