Description: This woodland is apparently restricted to xeric sandstone and acidic shales of Cumberland ridges. Its canopy is dominated by <i>Quercus prinus</i>. The understory consists of <i>Cornus florida, Amelanchier arborea, Quercus</i> spp., <i>Carya glabra, Carya alba</i>. The shrub layer is not strongly ericaceous, but does have <i>Vaccinium pallidum</i>. <i>Pityopsis graminifolia var. latifolia</i> is prominent in the herb layer.
