Description: Stands of this association occur on canyon slopes at high elevations (above 1525 m [5000 feet]) in the Chisos Mountains of Trans-Pecos Texas and possibly adjacent Mexico. Characteristic canopy dominants include the evergreen <i>Pinus cembroides</i> and <i>Juniperus flaccida</i> with the deciduous <i>Quercus gravesii.</i> Other evergreen <i>Pinus</i> spp. (<i>Pinus arizonica</i>), evergreen <i>Juniperus</i> spp. (<i>Juniperus deppeana, Juniperus coahuilensis</i>), deciduous <i>Quercus</i> spp. (<i>Quercus graciliformis</i>), as well as evergreen <i>Quercus</i> spp. (<i>Quercus grisea, Quercus tardifolia</i>) may be present. Characteristic herbs include <i>Salvia regla </i>and<i> Piptochaetium fimbriatum</i>.
