Description: This woodland occurs along permanently watered streams and rivers of the western Edwards Plateau of central Texas. <i>Platanus occidentalis</i> and <i>Juglans major</i> dominate the open canopy, which can range patchily from very open to nearly closed. Other canopy trees include <i>Acer grandidentatum</i> and <i>Prunus serotina var. eximia</i>. Typical shrubs include <i>Cephalanthus occidentalis</i>. Herbs are patchy, but sometimes dense, and include <i>Andropogon glomeratus var. pumilus, Panicum virgatum, Verbesina virginica, Muhlenbergia lindheimeri</i>, as well as various species typical of adjacent uplands. Along river segments, this grades into riparian grasslands. Upslope, it occurs in association with communities of <i>Quercus laceyi, </i><i>Quercus fusiformis, Quercus muehlenbergii</i>, and <i>Acer grandidentatum - Quercus buckleyi - Quercus muehlenbergii</i>.
