Description:
This wet flatwoods of the South Atlantic Coastal Plain in Georgia is typified by a canopy which ranges from open to scattered, and is dominated by mixtures of <i>Pinus elliottii var. elliottii</i> and <i>Taxodium ascendens</i>. Scattered subcanopy trees are sometimes present, and may include <i>Acer rubrum var. trilobum, Persea palustris</i>, and <i>Nyssa biflora</i>. The shrub stratum is typically well-developed, and includes <i>Photinia pyrifolia (= Aronia arbutifolia), Clethra alnifolia, Hypericum brachyphyllum, Hypericum crux-andreae (= Hypericum stans), Ilex glabra, Ilex myrtifolia, Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera var. cerifera), Morella caroliniensis (= Myrica heterophylla), Persea palustris, Smilax laurifolia, Styrax americanus (= var. pulverulentus), Toxicodendron radicans ssp. radicans</i>, and <i>Viburnum nudum var. nudum</i>.
