Description: Somewhat drier and less diverse montane forest community dominated by <i>Ocotea ekmanii</i> and other microphyllous sclerophyllous trees such as <i>Cyrilla racemiflora, Persea similis, Tabebuia oligolepis</i> and <i>Myrsine coriacea</i>, on the steep dry ridges and slopes of the Sierra Maestra range in eastern Cuba. Another diagnostic character of this community with respect to the <i>Magnolia cubensis ssp. cubensis - Laplacea angustifolia - Ocotea ekmanii</i> Forest is the total absence of tree-ferns in the second canopy layer. DISTRIBUTION: East Cuba: Sierra Maestra range.
