Description: This mesic <i>Pinus palustris</i> woodland of the West Gulf Coastal Plain occurs on pimple mounds of the Pleistocene Prairie Terraces, typically on Messer soils (Haplic Glossudalf). Stands are dominated by <i>Pinus palustris</i> with <i>Schizachyrium scoparium, Schizachyrium tenerum</i>, and <i>Silphium gracile</i>. In addition, some other typical species include <i>Liatris acidota, Liatris pycnostachya, Tephrosia onobrychoides, Euphorbia corollata, Tragia smallii, Rhexia alifanus, Stylosanthes biflora, Vernonia texana, Eupatorium leucolepis, Xyris caroliniana, Solidago odora var. odora, Dichanthelium aciculare (= Dichanthelium angustifolium), Quercus marilandica, Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera), Vaccinium stamineum, Helianthus angustifolius, Gymnopogon</i> sp., and <i>Eupatorium rotundifolium</i>. This community occurs in an interdigitated complex with ~<i>Pinus palustris / Rhynchospora elliottii - Lobelia flaccidifolia - Platanthera nivea - (Helenium drummondii)</i> Woodland (CEGL007802)$$.
