Description: This association occurs on upland rises in the lowest terrace of coastal flatwoods in the Florida parishes of Louisiana. Examples typically support an open canopy of <i>Pinus palustris</i>. Shrub and midstory layers are generally absent in high-quality, well-burned examples. The understory has a well-developed herbaceous layer dominated by grasses. Typical herbaceous species are <i>Schizachyrium scoparium, Muhlenbergia expansa, Helianthus radula, Schizachyrium tenerum, Gaylussacia dumosa (= var. dumosa), Lobelia brevifolia, Chaptalia tomentosa, Xyris caroliniana, Carphephorus odoratissimus, Aristida purpurascens var. virgata, Pityopsis graminifolia, Solidago rugosa, Solidago odora, Symphyotrichum adnatum (= Aster adnatus), Tephrosia onobrychoides, Eryngium yuccifolium</i>, and <i>Aletris aurea</i>.
