Description: This association of the Fall-line Sandhills region of South Carolina has an open canopy dominated by <i>Pinus palustris</i>. This type is found in the "wiregrass gap" south of the distribution of <i>Aristida stricta</i> and north of the distribution of <i>Aristida beyrichiana</i>. Sandhill oak species are typically present, especially <i>Quercus laevis</i> and sometimes also <i>Quercus incana, Quercus margarettiae</i>, and less commonly <i>Quercus laevis</i> and sometimes also <i>Quercus incana, Quercus margarettiae</i>, and less typically <i>Quercus marilandica</i>. Typical shrub components are <i>Vaccinium tenellum, Gaylussacia dumosa (= var. dumosa), Vaccinium arboreum, Vaccinium stamineum, Hypericum hypericoides, Hypericum lloydii</i>, and <i>Diospyros virginiana</i>. Typical herbs are <i>Schizachyrium scoparium, Sporobolus junceus, Aristida purpurascens, Pteridium aquilinum var. pseudocaudatum, Carphephorus bellidifolius, Galactia regularis, Eriogonum tomentosum, Bulbostylis ciliatifolia var. coarctata, Liatris</i> sp., <i>Aureolaria pectinata, Warea cuneifolia</i>, and <i>Cirsium repandum</i>. <i>Aristida stricta</i> and <i>Aristida beyrichiana</i> are both lacking. This association occurs on coarse sands in the Fall-line Sandhills of central South Carolina.
