Description: This community occurs on fine-sandy stream terraces in the West Gulf Coastal Plain of Louisiana and Texas. The open canopy is dominated by <i>Pinus palustris</i>, although examples in eastern Texas may also include <i>Pinus echinata</i> or <i>Pinus taeda</i>. The subcanopy includes scattered <i>Quercus incana, Quercus stellata</i>, and <i>Quercus marilandica</i>, with <i>Quercus margarettiae</i> also present in Texas examples. Shrubs include <i>Sassafras albidum, Erythrina herbacea</i> and <i>Yucca louisianensis</i>. Herbs include <i>Schizachyrium scoparium, Liatris elegans, Opuntia humifusa, Palafoxia texana var. ambigua, Gaillardia aestivalis, Tridens carolinianus, Pityopsis graminifolia, Monarda punctata, Chrysopsis mariana</i>, and <i>Tetragonotheca ludoviciana</i>.
