Description: This forest of the Tennessee Ridge and Valley is strongly dominated by <i>Fagus grandifolia</i>, which contributes from 50-75% of the total canopy cover. Other species which may occur in the canopy are <i>Acer saccharum</i> and <i>Quercus rubra</i>. The subcanopy and tall-shrub layers contain <i>Acer saccharum, Fagus grandifolia</i>, and <i>Carya</i> spp. Some characteristic herbs include <i>Polystichum acrostichoides</i> and <i>Tiarella cordifolia</i>.
