Description: This shrubland occurs in small narrow patches or bands on loamy saline soils along the upper edge of tidal reach on bays along the Texas Gulf Coast. It grades upslope into herbaceous vegetation dominated by <i>Spartina spartinae</i>; toward the shoreline it abuts bands of salt marsh vegetation dominated by <i>Distichlis spicata, Juncus roemerianus</i>, and <i>Spartina alterniflora</i>. It is typically dominated by <i>Iva frutescens</i>. Other components include <i>Spartina patens, Iva angustifolia, Symphyotrichum tenuifolium (= Aster tenuifolius)</i>, and, along the upland margin, <i>Baccharis halimifolia</i>.
