Description: This forest is a widespread successional forest in the Ozark and central Ouachita region, developing from formerly pastured (and maybe also farmed) lands. <i>Pinus echinata, Juniperus virginiana var. virginiana</i>, and <i>Ulmus alata</i> are the dominant trees. Canopy closure is variable (depending on age) and can be open to closed. Especially in the more open occurrences, <i>Rhus glabra</i> and <i>Rhus copallinum</i> can be common shrubs. <i>Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium</i> and other grasses may be common.
