Description: Infrequently flooded brackish (oligohaline) woodlands along tidal creeks about 25-35 km by river distance from the ocean. The canopy density is variable, but averages open (from 10-80% closure), and 4-10 m tall, strongly dominated by <i>Juniperus virginiana var. silicicola</i>, with widely scattered emergent <i>Pinus taeda, Acer rubrum var. trilobum, Ulmus americana</i>, and <i>Persea palustris</i>. The shrub layer is open to fairly dense, dominated by <i>Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera)</i>, with less frequent <i>Persea palustris</i> and <i>Baccharis halimifolia</i>. Mucky openings are dominated by <i>Kosteletzkya virginica, Bacopa monnieri, Pluchea rosea, Samolus</i> sp., <i>Eleocharis</i> spp., and <i>Cyperus</i> spp. Other characteristic species include <i>Hydrocotyle</i> sp., <i>Cladium mariscus ssp. jamaicense, Typha angustifolia, Lythrum lineare, Solidago sempervirens var. mexicana, Toxicodendron radicans, Schoenoplectus robustus (= Scirpus robustus)</i>, and others. This community occurs in areas of up to 40 hectares, and grades to marshes and uplands.
