Name: Baccharis halimifolia Successional Shrubland
Reference: Southeastern Ecology Working Gro...
Description: As currently described, this vegetation includes successional shrublands dominated by Baccharis halimifolia on saturated soils both in the interior Coastal Plain of Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas and along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Coastal settings include shrublands dominated by Baccharis halimifolia that invade old fields and saline and non-saline prairies in the absence of fire. In these settings, Spartina spartinae, Andropogon virginicus, Andropogon glomeratus, Setaria parviflora (= Setaria geniculata), and Solidago sempervirens are often present in the herb stratum. In the absence of fire, this association will succeed to ~Spartina spartinae Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL004608)$$.Apparently, this association also includes vegetation of the interior Coastal Plain occurring in disturbed settings on saturated soils.
