Name: Brunnichia ovata Vine-Shrubland
Reference: Southeastern Ecology Working Gro...
Description: This vine-dominated vegetation is dominated by Brunnichia ovata, a scrambling woody vine of wetlands. This association has been observed in the Upper East Gulf Coastal Plain at Fort Benning, Alabama (and probably Georgia), where the vine mimics the behavior of kudzu, covering trees and other existing vegetation. Examples seen range in size from less than one hectare to about a hectare. Edges of examples of this vegetation may consist of small to large trees in the process of being overwhelmed by Brunnichia ovata. It is also known to occur in Alabama, and probably in Georgia as well. The species ranges north to Kentucky, Virginia, and Missouri, and as far west as eastern Texas and Oklahoma.
