Description: Open grasslands with scattered xeromorphic desert shrubs, mainly <i>Acacia neovernicosa</i>, occurring below 1200 m (4000 feet) elevation, on slopes, in the Chihuahuan Desert. Other shrubs may be <i>Larrea tridentata, Parthenium incanum, Prosopis glandulosa</i>, and <i>Flourensia cernua</i>. Typical grasses are <i>Pleuraphis mutica (= Hilaria mutica), Sporobolus</i> spp., and <i>Bouteloua</i> spp.
