Name: Gutierrezia sarothrae - Yucca glauca Dwarf-shrubland
Reference: Midwestern Ecology Working Group...
Description: This association has been identified in the northern panhandle of Texas but is likely present elsewhere in the southwestern Great Plains. It occurs on shallow or gravelly, usually calcareous soils on dry upland sites. There is a moderate canopy of dwarf-shrubs dominated by Gutierrezia sarothrae, with Yucca glauca present but not abundant. Opuntia spp. are often present, as well, and tend to increase with disturbance such as grazing. Herbaceous cover is moderate. Aristida purpurea, Bouteloua curtipendula, and Sporobolus cryptandrus are the most common herbaceous species.
