Description: This cattail community type is found throughout the Northern Great Plains of the United States and Canada. Stands occur in shallow (<0.5 m) or deep depressions, stock ponds, and seepy drainages. The vegetation is dominated by relatively pure stands of <i>Typha</i> spp., either <i>Typha latifolia</i> or <i>Typha angustifolia</i> or both. Many associates can occur, including <i>Eleocharis</i> spp. and <i>Sagittaria latifolia</i>. This type may simply be a less diverse variation of ~<i>Typha</i> spp. - <i>Schoenoplectus</i> spp. - Mixed Herbs Great Plains Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL002228)$$ that arises in disturbed wetland areas.
