Reference:
Description: This small-patch forest community occurs on rich circum-mesic sites in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia at elevations from 0 to 350 m on the leeward side of the Queen Charlotte Ranges. It is characterized by a moderately closed canopy dominated by Tsuga heterophylla, a sparse understory of shrubs and herbs, and a well-developed moss layer dominated by feathermosses with some leafy mosses. The forest canopy is dominated by high cover of Tsuga heterophylla with moderate cover of Picea sitchensis. A moderate cover of regenerating Tsuga heterophylla with low cover of Vaccinium parvifolium and Menziesia ferruginea characterizes the shrub layer. The poorly developed herb layer includes low cover of Blechnum spicant, Athyrium filix-femina, Tiarella trifoliata, Dryopteris expansa, Maianthemum dilatatum, Huperzia haleakalae, and Moneses uniflora. The well-developed moss layer is dominated by high cover of Rhytidiadelphus loreus with moderate cover of Hylocomium splendens, Eurhynchium oreganum, and Rhizomnium glabrescens.
