Description: This woodland is known from central to southern California. It occurs on gentle to steep slopes with variable aspects at low elevations between 91 and 1158 m. It is usually found on deep clay, sand, or rocky to clay loam soils. It is dominated by <i>Quercus agrifolia</i> and <i>Quercus lobata</i> in the tree layer and <i>Brassica nigra</i> in the herbaceous layer. Other tree species may include <i>Juglans californica</i> and <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i> at low cover. The shrub layer is sparse to intermittent with an herbaceous understory that may include <i>Hirschfeldia incana, Centaurea melitensis, Lactuca serriola, Marrubium vulgare, Eriogonum elongatum</i>, and the graminoids <i>Bromus diandrus</i> or <i>Leymus condensatus</i>.
