Description: This shrubland association occurs on somewhat steep to abrupt southeast-facing slopes at low elevations between 2 and 625 m. It is characterized by a codominance of <i>Encelia californica</i> and <i>Rhus integrifolia</i> in the shrub. The herbaceous layer is generally insignificant and composed of non-native species. The emergent tree layer is usually not present.
