Description: Large conifer trees on cool sites are typical for the association. This community occurs in the Klamath-Siskiyou and southern Cascades regions of Oregon and may also occur in northwestern California. Site can be found on all slopes less than 60% on northern aspects at elevations of 1770-2040 m (5800-6680 feet). Soils are not well documented, but are probably moderately deep (1 m) with texture of sandy loam or loamy sand. The tree canopy is dominated by <i>Abies magnifica var. shastensis</i>. <i>Abies lowiana</i> is occasionally present. Important understory components are <i>Polemonium pulcherrimum</i> and <i>Moehringia macrophylla</i>.
