Description: This association is found in the western Cascades and Olympic Mountains at middle elevations typically on moderate to steep slopes with south- to west-facing aspects and well-drained soils. The canopy is typically codominated by <i>Tsuga heterophylla, Abies amabilis</i>, and <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i>. In any one stand, one or more species may be less abundant. <i>Abies amabilis</i> always occupies over 10% total cover and usually codominates tree regeneration with <i>Tsuga heterophylla</i>. The shrub layer is usually moderately dense and is dominated by <i>Mahonia nervosa</i>. <i>Vaccinium alaskaense</i> and <i>Vaccinium parvifolium</i> are usually present. The herb layer is typically sparse and may be absent. <i>Cornus unalaschkensis</i> and <i>Linnaea borealis</i> are usually present.
