Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This is a minor type on White Sands Missile Range, but it has been previously described from southwestern New Mexico (Muldavin et al. 1998a). The association is savanna-like with a very open but tall canopy of Rhus microphylla with a luxuriant and tall grass layer (>75% cover) dominated by Bouteloua curtipendula. It is known from large alluvial flats of the northern Jornada del Muerto basin at an elevation of 1460 m (4785 feet). The soils are derived from very fine clay alluvial deposits.
