Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This plant association is described from sites in the Eastern Cascades, Blue Mountains, and Bitterroot Valley ecoregional sections. The association occurs on steep, south-facing, mid to upper slopes at 580 to 1680 m (1900-5500 feet) elevation (typically at higher elevation in the eastern portion of the range). Soils are typically dry, shallow, and rocky. A high exposure of rock and surface soil is common. Relatively open stands of Purshia tridentata occur with Pseudoroegneria spicata and Balsamorhiza sagittata. Poa secunda and Lomatium dissectum are often also present.
