Description: This association occurs in the eastern Cascades at middle to high elevations. Sites are relatively cool and on moderate slopes. <i>Abies lasiocarpa</i> is dominant in the semi-open to closed tree canopy. <i>Picea engelmannii</i> and/or <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i> are usually present in the canopy. The shrub layer is typically moderately dense and dominated by <i>Vaccinium membranaceum</i> with <i>Paxistima myrsinites</i>. <i>Vaccinium scoparium</i> may be present. The herb layer is usually poorly developed with <i>Calamagrostis rubescens, Carex geyeri</i>, and <i>Orthilia secunda</i> most common.
