Description: This is a provisional type in the Southwest and a minor type on White Sands Missile Range (four plots). It is known from both escarpment and dipslopes of moderate to warm aspects at elevations of 1670 to 2390 m (5500-7500 feet). Stands are characterized by an open canopy of <i>Pinus edulis</i> and <i>Juniperus monosperma</i>, with a grassy understory dominated by <i>Bouteloua curtipendula</i> and occasionally codominated by <i>Aristida purpurea</i>.
