Name: Pinus ponderosa / Artemisia arbuscula Woodland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This type is thought to be restricted to isolated ridges in the Blue, Ochoco and Wallowa mountains in Oregon. This is an open woodland in which Pinus ponderosa dominates with a sparse canopy along ridges or other shallow soiled areas. They are often indicative of a transition between low sagebrush/bunchgrass communities and ponderosa pine/bunchgrass communities (Johnson and Clausnitzer 1992). Artemisia arbuscula is the dominant shrub, and dominates other associated bunchgrasses: Festuca idahoensis, Pseudoroegneria spicata, Poa secunda, and Koeleria macrantha.
