Description: This plant association is known from sites within the southwestern portion of the Bitterroot Mountains ecoregional section, within east-central Idaho. It is suspected to occur in Montana and Oregon but has not been documented. The plant association occurs within a region of cool, arid climatic, on gentle terrain in valley bottom positions. <i>Artemisia tridentata ssp. wyomingensis</i> occurs in an open shrub canopy. <i>Carex filifolia</i> is abundant in the understory; <i>Hesperostipa comata</i> is well represented. <i>Opuntia polyacantha, Astragalus purshii, Eriastrum sparsiflorum</i>, and <i>Phlox hoodii ssp. muscoides</i> are common to present.
